Top 10 Best Semi-Automatic Washing Machine in India

The semi-automatic washing machine uses a combination of automatic and manual inputs to do your laundry. Unlike a fully automatic washing machine, a semi-automatic washing machine requires some manual input and has a number of steps that you need to perform before you can do your laundry.

This machine also has separate tubs for washing and drying clothes which is a different feature compared to fully automatic washing machines. Although these machines require you to take some steps, they are extremely useful for people living in areas where water supply is limited because semi-automatic washing machines do not require a continuous supply of water.

Semi-automatic washing machines are also economical and suitable for people with low budgets. All of these machines are a great alternative to fully automatic washing machines because they still give you clean and hygienic clothes in areas with a limited water supply and at a much lower cost. Even the best semi-automatic washing machines can be priced within the range you can afford and hence these machines are preferred by many.

  How do washing machines work?

There is simple physics behind the working of a washing machine. A detergent lowers the surface tension of the water, essentially making the water “wet”. One part of the detergent molecule is water-loving and attaches itself to water, while the other part attaches itself to dirt. When the tub inside the washing machine rotates, the centrifugal force causes water to be pushed out. This force removes dirt from clothes. This is the basic working principle behind the washing machine. But then there are additional actions that work:

Scrubbing: This is a common action that occurs when you rub clothes against each other. You will do this if you want to clean the collar of the shirt. You dip the collar in the detergent water and rub it with yourself to clean off the mess. Similarly, in the washing machine, the clothes rub against each other, and in some cases, they also rub against the pores along the wall of the tub. This scrubbing action helps to clean the clothes.

Remember how they show dhobi washes in movies? The washerman will take the cloth and beat it with a stone. In washing machines (especially front loaders), the cloth falls to the bottom of the tub due to gravity, and the impact removes dirt.
These additional actions improve the cleaning performance of the washing machine.

Fully automatic vs semi-automatic washing machines
Whenever the term “automatic” is associated with a washing machine, it means that the machine not only washes the clothes but removes most of the water (about 96%) from them after washing. The main difference between fully automatic and semi-automatic washing machines is that in fully automatic washing machines, all the processes from washing to spinning take place independently through an automatic program. Conversely, in a semi-automatic, one must move the fabric from one operation to another manually.

Automated machines do everything automatically. Once you choose a wash program, the machine will automatically fill with the water needed to wash, choose the right wash cycle, rinse, drain the water, and finally spin to get rid of any remaining moisture—all in one. In the same drum.

On the other hand, a semi-automatic machine requires a lot of manual intervention. Before starting the wash cycle you need to fill in the water and select the wash cycle/time. Also, once the wash is complete, you need to transfer the clothes from the wash drum to the dryer (spin) compartment. In a way, this gives more control over the washing process but is generally considered laborious. They lack any new and flashy features and are therefore generally more affordable. From an energy-saving point of view, both machines (automatic and semi-automatic) are similar.

Semi-automatic washing machines are generally much cheaper and have far fewer features than fully automatic machines. You will also find that most tubs in semi-automatic machines are made of plastic, while tubs in most fully automatic machines are made of metal (or an alloy such as stainless steel). A metal tub is usually more durable.

Semi-automatic washing machines only come in top load options, and thus out of the actions mentioned above, they can only provide scrubbing.
